A New Way to Build Your Brand and Become a Marketing Thought Leader

I talk to a lot of marketers who want to build their personal brand as marketing thought leaders but don’t know how.  This got me thinking about what it really takes to develop a personal brand.  I did some checking, and Chris Brogan, a true master at this, has posted some great ideas on how to grow a personal brand. His main tenets are:

  • Offer value
  • Build a destination
  • Join the conversation
  • Build and learn constantly
  • Have high self-esteem and be yourself
  • Innovate
  • Be responsible
  • Take a leadership approach (be your own company)
  • Communicate well

Still, many have tried this recipe and haven’t quite gained the voice they are looking for.  What happens if you’re working diligently to create your personal brand but are still getting stalled?  Maybe you’ve never grown past a few hundred Twitter followers, or haven’t gained “lift” for your brand even after joining conversation after conversation.
